Dr. Joseph Scott, MD

Dr. Joseph Scott founded The Family Doctors practice in 1985 with a mission to provide the best possible, convenient medical care to area residents, but equally important, to support the maintenance of wellness within the community.

Growing up within a family of nurses, Dr. Scott was inspired to help people at a young age, setting his sights on medical school in his teen years. After graduating from Penn State at Hershey, Dr. Scott completed his post-graduate training at the U.S. Public Health Service. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and is a member of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Scott is also one of only two physicians in Denton to earn Board Certification from the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.

When he’s not tending to patients’ needs he’s often tending to the challenges of the larger medical community, sitting on the Board of Trustees for Medical City Denton and the Board of Directors for Denton’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Second to helping people, Dr. Scott enjoys playing in the dirt, as he tends to his garden. Dr. Scott says he has the best conversations with God and his dog when he’s working in his backyard.
